With the launch of Pegasus, Aura-Soma Products Ltd.® memorialises founder Vicky Wall’s profound understanding of the sympathetic connection between colour and scent, and her continual experience of synchronicity—being in the right place at the right time—which ultimately led to the development of Equilibrium and the Aura-Soma system.
Our first launch of Pegasus featured a limited signature edition of 800 bottles comprised of 8 fragrances, each packaged in a Maplewood box with a beautiful crystal-cut atomiser. The Pegasus fragrances were developed by Aura-Soma in collaboration with Creative Perfumers Limited and its founder Anastasia, who specialises in the rare art of mixing substances through synaesthesia, a cross-sensory perceptual ability. In the creation of Pegasus, this refers to relating and combining the energetics of colour, using the Aura-Soma Equilibrium colours, with their aromatic counterparts. This is very much in harmony with Vicky’s relationship to colour and scent, when she smelled a fragrance, she saw colour, and when she saw colour, she smelled a fragrance.
Our head chemist, who specialises in the formulations of the biodynamic and organic ingredients which comprise most of our products, describes the development of Pegasus:
We have strived to go back to the art of embracing the subtleties and complexities of using purely natural and organic materials. Seasonal variations in natural crops, minute yields and arduous extraction processes make the development so much more challenging but also more creative and fulfilling. The resultant fragrance blends are soft, well-rounded and wonderfully pure. Pegasus is created using only natural and and organic essential oils extracted from plants and flowers. The alcohol, which is used as the fragrance carrier, is Certified Organic by the Soil Association and fermented from pure organic grain. By using organic-grade materials we can be sure that our fine ingredients are not exposed to pollution or pesticides. Our perfumes are guaranteed to be free from petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances and preservatives.
And why specifically the name Pegasus? Chairman Mike Booth recounts:
The name Pegasus is actually derived from the work Vicky did in the Second World War. She drove an ambulance around London and had a reputation with the other ambulance drivers of always being in the right place in the right time to help someone. Toward the end of the war the drivers had a cast made of a Pegasus and gifted her with it. She had it mounted on the bonnet of every car that she owned from that time on! And it was one of the first things I noticed the first time she drove up our driveway in 1984 to discuss working together to develop the Aura-Soma system.
The Pegasus fragrances bring us full circle into giving yet another of Vicky’s ways and wonders beautiful wings to new heights.
